Gas to Energy

The 2009 tournament will be held on Friday, October 2, at the Clinton County Club, with registration starting at 11:00 am.   The proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Clinton County 4-H Endowment Fund and the Lock Haven Rotary’s Club’s “Project McKenzie”.  Additional information can be found at the link provided below:

LFG is typically 50% methane and is a serious contributor to global warming. The gas is also a source of odor and smog problems. By utilizing LFG as an alternative energy source, Jersey Shore Steel improves Clinton County by reducing air pollution and tapping into an otherwise wasted source of useable energy. This dedication of managing our resources is just one of the ways that the WTL strives to make a difference.

How the system works:

  • The gas is compressed, filtered, dried and then pumped to JSS through a 2.5 mile pipeline
  • LFG has a value of 550 BTU’s per cubic foot
  • WTL generates enough LFG to heat 2500 households per year

Savings and Benefits to the Community:

  • Reduces odor and air pollution
  • Minimizes our dependence on foreign and fossil fuels
  • WTL provides JSS with ~ 1100 cubic feet per minute of LFG which equals 33 million BTU’s per hour
  • JSS saves greater than $900,000 per year on natural gas costs
  • LFG Recovery System preserves 250 plus jobs in our community
