Article: Hot Times at Jersey Shore Steel - Keeping Those T-Rails Rollin’

LFG is typically 50% methane and is a serious contributor to global warming. The gas is also a source of odor and smog problems. By utilizing LFG as an alternative energy source, Jersey Shore Steel improves Clinton County by reducing air pollution and tapping into an otherwise wasted source of useable energy. This dedication of managing our resources is just one of the ways that the WTL strives to make a difference

Savings and Benefits to the Community:

    * Reduces odor and air pollution
    * Minimizes our dependence on foreign and fossil fuels
    * WTL provides JSS with approximately 1,100 cubic feet of LFG, which equals 33 million BTUs per hour
    * JSS saves greater than $900,000 per year on natural gas costs
    * LFG Recovery System preserves 250 plus jobs in our community

The Wayne Township Landfill’s commitment to reducing, reusing and recycling is evidenced by our landfill gas (LFG) recovery system.  The gas collected by the system is utilized by the Jersey Shore Steel Company as the primary source of fuel for their re-heat furnace.
