How To Recycle

The following materials are recycled in Clinton County: clear, green, and brown glass bottles & jars; paper; aluminum & steel cans; plastic bottles; motor oil; and used car batteries. Prepare the recyclables as indicated in the chart below.

Glass Bottles and Jars

Clear, brown, and green glass bottles & jars.

Rinse containers, remove lids, leave labels on.

Window glass, light bulbs, crystal, Pyrex, ceramics, ovenware, & drinking glasses.

Newspaper

Clean Newspaper (including inserts).

Separate from mixed paper

Phone books

Mixed Paper

 Office paper, junk mail, magazines, catalogs, glossy paper.

Separate from newspaper.

Phone books, coated paper, tissue paper, hard-backed books.

Corrugated Cardboard

Clean corrugated cardboard.

Breakdown boxes.

Cereal boxes, six-pack carriers, waxed cardboard.

Cans

Aluminum, steel, & tin food and beverage cans

Rinse containers, and leave labels on.

Pie plates, aluminum foil, pesticide or herbicide spray cans

Plastic Bottles

Plastic bottles, coded #1 or #2, typically soda, milk, water, & laundry soap bottles.

Rinse containers, remove lids, leave labels on.

Toys, plastic bottles coded #3 thru #7, motor oil bottles, other plastic containers.

 

The Authority also collects the following material at it’s recycling center in McElhattan:

Motor Oil

Engine oil or light gear oil free of contaminates

Store in 1 gallon sturdy containers

Grease, engine cleaners or solvents, antifreeze.

Used Car Batteries

Lead-acid batteries from cars, trucks, boats, lawn mowers, etc.

Store intact. Exchange when purchasing a new battery to deliver to recycling facility

Household or Ni-cad batteries.
